Managing Energy and Progression in Where Winds Meet: What New Players Should Focus On

  • November 23, 2025 5:39 PM PST

If you’ve just started playing Where Winds Meet, you’ve probably noticed that the game throws a lot of systems at you early on. Energy, stamina, professions, currencies, challenge modes—there’s a lot going on, and many players end up wasting valuable resources simply because the game doesn’t clearly explain where your time and effort should go. After spending plenty of hours experimenting with different activities and gear routes, I’ve put together a practical guide to help you make smarter decisions with your daily energy and overall progression.

This is a breakdown of what matters most, how to avoid common mistakes, and what you should prioritize once you reach key milestones like level 41.

Early Game: Use Your Energy, Don’t Hoard It

Energy is basically the game’s action currency. It refills slowly over time, and the cap grows as your breakthrough level increases. The most important principle is simple: don’t let your energy cap. Any time your bar hits the cap, you’re losing potential progress.

Before level 41, you don’t really need to overthink your spending. Outpost challenges, campaign challenges, and general farming all help you push forward at a steady pace. At this stage, I tried different activities casually, and as long as the energy kept flowing, the account grew just fine. This is also when many players begin looking for tips on Where Winds Meet boosting, though honestly, with the amount of free progression early on, you can enjoy learning the game at your own pace.

Level 41 and Beyond: Start Target Farming Gear Sets

Once you reach level 41, the game opens up the real progression loop. More challenge modes unlock, gear tuning becomes available, and specific gear sets start making a major difference in your performance. This is when your energy finally becomes a resource worth planning around.

Campaign challenges are the best place to start target farming. Each boss drops pieces from specific sets, and completing four-piece bonuses can give huge boosts to your damage or survivability. For example, the Swallow Call and Hawking sets are both strong choices depending on your style. If you’ve ever wondered why some players seem to deal triple your damage, it’s usually because they already locked in their four-piece bonuses early.

Sword Trials are also worth running, especially when grouped with other players. You get more loot, faster clears, and access to more Inaway Notes. If you’re shy about grouping, smart assist works too, but the reward difference is real.

Avoid Using Pillow Powder Early On

Like many games inspired by gacha systems, Where Winds Meet includes items that refill energy instantly. Pillow Powder works just like fragile resin from certain other games, and the temptation to use it is strong when you’re out of energy and still want to run “just one more trial.”

    Save it.

Gear gets replaced often in the early game, and burning pillow powder at this stage wastes long-term value. I held onto mine for later breakthroughs, and it made a noticeable difference once the energy cap increased and late-game farming became more demanding.

    Understanding the Second Stamina System

One thing the game doesn’t explain well is that there are actually two stamina systems. Energy is for progression, but the crafting stamina under the Professions tab is for medicine, healing items, and support consumables. You regenerate 450 per day, which is more than enough if you remember to spend it regularly. I learned the hard way that letting this second bar sit at its cap means missing out on tons of medicine and profession experience.

Herbalism, prescriptions, and other profession activities help you in combat far more than most new players realize. These small boosts add up, especially in multiplayer boss fights.

Smart Currency Spending: Jade Fish, Echo Jade, and Shops

Currencies in Where Winds Meet can be confusing, especially since many shops are hidden behind UI layers. The easiest way to understand where your currencies go is simply to click them in your backpack and check “How to Obtain” and “Usage Shop.” It’s the fastest and cleanest way to learn the system.

For Jade Fish, stick to inner way note chests and martial arts custom tip chests. These are the backbone of breakthrough progression, and buying random materials too early is rarely worth it.

Echo Jades are much more limited, so treat them as important. Many players waste them rolling in the summon system because it looks exciting, but the power gain there is tiny compared to what you get from shop items. Only spend Echo Jades on Inaway Notes when you actually need them.

This is also one of the points where some players might look for Discount Where Winds Meet boosting services, especially when they feel stuck behind currency bottlenecks. Even so, good currency management often solves that problem on its own.

Oddities, Talent Upgrades, and Path Guides

Oddities provide huge quality-of-life upgrades, such as reducing overworld boss damage or improving movement. Once you unlock basic traversal tools, don’t stop exploring oddities. Some of them directly improve gear drops, including a 20% bonus chance for extra gear every 20 energy spent on campaign challenges. This one is absolutely worth getting early.

Next, the Path Guide inside the Development tab is one of the most overlooked features in the game. It shows which weapons and sets most players use within each combat style. If you’re not sure what to build, follow the popular paths until you understand how combinations work. Matching weapon choices with the right gear sets makes the game much easier and much more fun.

Gear Tuning: A True Late-Game System

Gear tuning becomes available at level 41 and adds another layer of progression. Tuning can give strong bonuses like attack boosts, dodge bonuses, or skill damage increases. It’s a gacha-like system, so expect to reroll several times before getting your ideal stats.

Even small bonuses matter here. A 1% improvement on the right skill or damage type can stack with your set bonuses and martial arts perks, giving surprisingly large returns. I recommend tuning weapons first, then gear that boosts your core combat stats.

Where Winds Meet has a surprisingly deep progression system, but once you understand how Energy, stamina, and currencies work together, the game becomes far smoother to play. Don’t waste resources early, focus your energy after level 41, and take advantage of systems like oddities and tuning as soon as you unlock them. With a bit of planning, your power level climbs much faster, and you’ll feel the difference immediately in Sword Trials and campaign bosses.
